Abstract

Depression is a disease which is encountered by most people these days. Depression can interfere with individuals in their daily lives because they lose energy, feel anxious, feel worthless and can even hurt themselves to commit suicide. The form of psychological therapy that can be given to individuals experiencing depression is Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is useful for increasing individual psychological flexibility regarding thoughts, feelings, and behavior. The purpose of this study is to conduct a meta-analysis review to seek further evidence regarding the effectiveness of Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) in reducing depression measured using the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS-D), The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), The Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II), Reynolds child depression scale (RCDS), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS-D), Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS). The type of research conducted is quantitative research which is analyzed using meta-analysis techniques. The data used comes from 17 journals that discussed depression and Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) (n experimental group = 595; n control group = 620. The results of the analysis obtained an estimate value of 1,12 which show the large effect with a value of I2 = 95,34% this shows that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is effective in reducing depression levels.
